Going Through Tough Times

In life we all go through great times and then there are those times when we feel like the sky is falling. It is these difficult times that we sometimes wonder does God really care or where is He. I found out that it is those times when things are very difficult that God is calling us to lean on Him.

Just like in school we are always going to be tested. How can we tell where we are if we aren’t tested? Scripture says we are refined by fire. I think about the expression “when the heat is on” is when we do our best. We are going to make mistakes just like we did in school but the important thing is that we learn from them.

Proverbs 3:3-7 says; Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4. So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. 5. Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. 7. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

All that is negative in this life is seen to have a positive purpose in the execution of God’s eternal plan. Everything which seems to frustrate God’s purpose comes to serve its accomplishments. Things which independently or of themselves would prove to be our undoing God causes to work for our ultimate good. This “we know” if we have the Spirit. Everything that is good and even the things that we consider bad can be used to help us “to be conformed to the image of His son”. (Romans 8:28,29)

Only when we view our present existence set on God’s purpose, which extends from eternity to eternity, do we get the right and fullest perspective. Then we are in a position to see that “all things” which come to the Christian in this life and thus the sufferings of the present age must “work together for good to them that love God”.

The more we trust and rely on God to guide us the more He will guide us. The key thing is he always wants us to make the first step. It’s easiest to put ourselves first. When something good happens, we want to congratulate ourselves with a reward. When something bad happens, we want to console ourselves or find someone to blame. In other words, we often have a “me-centric” starting place. He has given us the freedom of choice and before he helps us he wants to make sure that we are choosing and relying on Him. Don’t get me wrong he is always there regardless of where we are or what mess we may have gotten into but all we have to do is ask and he will help us. The important thing is that we have to be sincere. The big problem is a lot of times we are constantly asking Him for help but not willing to do anything for Him. Remember when it seems like God is not there it is because we have gone away from him not that he is left us even though it seems that way at times.
