As Christians we have a lot of responsibility as servants of the Lord. God makes it very clear to us that Christianity is a lifestyle not a hobby as a lot of people treat it. 1st Timothy 4:12 it states that we are to be an example [become a pattern] to all believers in what we say in the way we live, in our love, and our faith, and our purity. We must remember that as soon as we identify ourselves as a Christian we then come under the scrutiny of the world around us. One of Satan’s big goals is to discredit us as Christians. He wants us to do something that will prove Christianity as a fake. All we have to do is to slip up once and everything we have tried to do for the Lord literally gets thrown into the trash by those who see it.
In my opinion there are two kinds of Christians, or those that call themselves Christians. The 1st is the part-time Christian or as I call it the want-to-be Christians. They go to church every Sunday and sometimes to a Bible study. In some cases they may have even recited the salvation prayer. The reason I say recited is because in many churches I have been to their approach has been to say the prayer and everything is great. It is not treated like the serious oath it is. We must remember that this is an oath not just a promise. We are telling God that we are going to commit our life to him and his service and not to live in the ways of the world. The part-time Christian is a Christian on Sundays and holidays like Christmas and Easter but is of the world the rest of the time. Their lifestyle the rest of the time, in some cases, is not even close to that of a Christian.
The second kind of Christian is one that has dedicated their life completely to God’s service. This does not mean that they are a pastor or deacon but just that they live their life according to God’s laws all the time. A true Christian is one who bases their life completely on the 10 Commandments and the Bible. A lot of people think the 10 Commandments are laws. Actually they’re not, they’re more like street signs guiding us through life. Whether we obey them or not is up to us. If there is a sign that says do not enter on something they want to do, they don’t do it. The Bible says that we are to pray incessantly. In my opinion that does not mean that we are to walk around praying nonstop it just means that we are constantly to keep on our mind what would Jesus say about everything we do each day. This means always be willing to help somebody and in everything we do whether it’s a job we do not like or sure that we don’t not like to do it willingly for the glory of God.
I honestly feel that if each one of us truly live this second lifestyle we could definitely get this world back on track with the help of God. Philippians 4:13-says “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. Mark 10:27-“and Jesus looking upon them said, with men [it is] impossible but not with God: for with God all things are possible”
If we give our fears, our worries, and our burdens, to God and truly put our faith in him we will be surprised as to what we can accomplish not only as an individual but as the Church of Christ.
